CANS Emerging Leaders Speaker Series, Richmond Yards: Place Making in the City
Registration now OPEN!
Join us for a compelling presentation on Richmond Yards: Place Making in the City, where we explore one of Canada's largest site remediation and housing projects. Transforming over five acres in Halifax's north end, the former Acadian Bus Lines terminal on Almon Street has become a vibrant community hub, seamlessly integrating residential, commercial, and recreational spaces.
Once an industrial district of underused warehouses, this area was cut off from the urban fabric by a ‘superblock.’ Richmond Yards reimagines the space, reconnecting the neighbourhood with walkable streets, bike lanes, and public transit access. From diverse housing options to thriving retail, restaurants, and live/work studios, this project breathes new life into a once-neglected corner of the city.
Presented by Dr. Susan Fitzgerald, an award-winning architect, educator, and researcher, this session will delve into the innovative design and community impact of Richmond Yards. As FBM Design Director, Dr. Fitzgerald brings unparalleled expertise and a global perspective, with accolades ranging from the Governor General’s Medal in Architecture to recognition at the Venice Biennale of Architecture.
Discover how Richmond Yards creates a new sense of place and fosters a dynamic, inclusive future for Halifax. You won’t want to miss this inspiring discussion!
