Overview: Fundamentals of Lean Construction is an informative workshop that reviews the history and evolution of Lean Construction, demonstrates how to apply Lean principles throughout the life of a project with a focus on balancing the construction production system, using ‘pull’ in practice and Last Planner System implementation strategies. We will use two simulations to demonstrate the impact of smooth workflow and how production laws apply to the construction site. Participants will leave with the ability to begin using Lean principles immediately.

- Brief History of Lean in Construction to provide context
- Define the problem that we have in ’traditional’ construction
- Review the common ‘wastes’ in construction
- Redefine the internal customer/supplier relationship on construction teams
- Sources of variation and how they impact project success
- Define & discuss the concept of smooth workflow
- Compare resource efficiency to flow efficiency
- Redefine trade scope completion and hand-off
