Overview: Solid Foundations is a practical leadership training for supervisors, foremen, and leaders in construction and the trades. The course explores the realities of working in male-dominated workplaces, and how stress, pressure, and job-site culture affect safety, performance, and wellbeing. Participants will gain practical tools to support themselves and their crews, address difficult situations early, and lead more effectively under pressure.

Participants will look at why issues such as mental health challenges, substance use, bullying, and injury rates tend to be higher in construction, and how day-to-day leadership decisions and job-site dynamics can either reduce or increase those risks.

Through a mix of practical information, discussion, and hands-on activities, participants will build skills to better manage pressure, have straightforward and respectful conversations, and respond more effectively when someone on the crew is struggling. The training is interactive, grounded in real construction scenarios, and focused on tools leaders can use immediately at work and at home.

Learning Objectives:

· Better understand the pressures and realities of working in male-dominated workplaces like construction, and how they affect focus, safety, performance, and wellbeing;

·  Recognize how stress, long hours, and workplace dynamics can contribute to injuries, absenteeism, conflict, and mental health challenges;

·  Build confidence having practical, respectful conversations when someone on the crew is struggling;

·  Learn strategies to manage their own stress and stay steady under pressure;

·  Strengthen their ability to lead crews in ways that support both productivity and people.
