Overview: When payment requests fail, sending a formal demand letter is a crucial step to protect rights and prompt payment. This module covers legal remedies for unpaid debts, including how to pursue claims and enforce judgments.

 

It also explains bankruptcy basics, such as the rights of secured creditors, common claim errors, and how to prove a claim. Finally, participants learn about bond claims, including payment, labour & material, bid and performance bonds, and the defenses bonding companies may raise.

 

Learning Objectives:

·       Learn about debt claims and court actions (Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, Small Claims Court, enforcement)

·       Understand bankruptcy claims and creditor rights

·       Identify bond claims, proving claims, and defenses
