Overview:

This introductory series of courses is primarily intended for general contractors, sub-contractors, owners, procurement authority representatives and consultants that competitively procure construction projects using the Design-Bid-Build project delivery method, a stipulated or fixed price pricing mode or can be applicable to all delivery and pricing models.

Module 1 – May 13, 2025 - A Guide to Construction Contract: This session is a primer on “how- to-read-and-understand-construction-contracts”. It examines some key applicable contract law principles and fundamental construction contracting essentials as well as typical provisions found in construction contracts.  It references CCDC 2 2020 along with other government and public sector contracts.

Module 2 – May 20, 2025 - Contractor/Subcontractor Guide to Construction Subcontracts: This session is a primer on “how- to-read-and-understand-construction-subcontracts”. It examines some key applicable contract law principles and fundamental construction subcontracting essentials as well as typical provisions found in construction subcontracts using CCA 1 2021, the nationally recognized Standard Stipulated Price Subcontract form, as one example.

Module 3 – May 27, 2025 - A Guide to CCDC 2 2020: This session looks closely at CCDC 2 2020, the Canadian Construction Document Committee’s current standard Stipulated Price Contract, which is the CCDC’s “flagship” standard contract form. Most construction contracts in use today in Canada are based upon CCDC 2. This course includes a description of the important changes made to CCDC 2 in 2020.
