Volunteer Opportunities

We need you.

CANS encourages and welcomes individuals and companies to become involved in our organization as volunteers.

Most of our decision making and event planning are volunteer based through standing committees and ad hoc groups.

The committees and groups contribute to the following:

  • Industry and Government Relations
  • Innovation and Technology
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Membership Services
  • Finance
  • Labour Strategy
  • Industry Education and Training

Please contact the committee chairs listed below if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.

Membership Committee: Evaluates member services and promotes membership. (Chairman John Flemming, Ocean Contractors)

Special Events Committee: Organizes special events such as our annual De-Icer, golf tournament, and ball tournament. (Chairman Matt Brunt, J.W. Bird & Co.)

Industry Education and Training: Provides valuable training opportunities for career development, skill building and enhancement. (Chairman Rylan McDow, Shaw Group)

Mechanical Contractors Section: Mechanical contractor members meet regularly to deal with industry issues such as fuel safety, high pressure welding regulations, fire marshal's office and apprenticeship matters. The Section maintains active membership in the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC).

Developing Executives

The Developing Executives Group was formed several years ago. Its role is to create a network and identify development opportunities for members under the age of 35. The Developing Executives group also organizes social activities such as golf, curling and pool for its members.

The Developing Executives Group is represented on a number of CANS committees such as the Board of Directors, Membership Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee. To find out more information, please visit the Developing Executives Page.

Networking Opportunities

Let's get together!

Gatherings with colleagues where everyone shares a common business interest is an added bonus to your membership.

CANS provides a number of formal and informal networking opportunities through social events, information sessions and committee activities.

Each spring the CANS De-Icer provides a social opportunity where more then 1,700 members and guests get together for an evening of good food and good music.

In June more than 370 members participate in our annual Golf Tournament, followed later in the summer by our Softball Tournament in Kentville, Nova Scotia.

The month of October brings with it our Annual General Meeting. CANS members enjoy a weekend getaway where they exchange information about their industry experiences, share best practices and fellowship.
